La Carrera

Este programa permite aprender a manejar un negocio con éxito en la industria hotelera internacional, sea como gerente o empresario. Los estudiantes aprenderán a satisfacer las expectativas de los huéspedes, con atractivos productos y servicios orientados a ellos. Su objetivo es proporcionar a los estudiantes una amplia comprensión de los aspectos operativos en los campos de la hotelería y los restaurantes, actualmente en gran crecimiento.

Los graduados estarán preparados para manejar todas las fases de la producción de alimentos, relación con los empleados, compras, planificación de menús, relaciones públicas, negocios y control financiero. Tendrán la ventaja de poseer excelentes habilidades de comunicación y la capacidad de obtener satisfacción haciendo felices a otros. Desarrollarán una amplia gama de conocimientos en una variedad de temas.

El programa preparará a los estudiantes para trabajar en hoteles, restaurantes, clubes, hospitales y empresas orientadas al servicio.

Cursos: 
Composición en Inglés I
3 credits. Pre-requisite: None. In this course students will learn how to write clear, correct and effectively. The purpose of this course is to teach students the use of grammar and organizational skills to write an effective essay. Students write frequently both in and out of class.
Composición en Inglés II
3 credits. Pre-requisite: Composición en Inglés I. This course is a continuation of English composition 1001. Students will review and reinforce. How to write effective essays that keeps the audience interested. In addition, students will learn new techniques to write analytical essays.
Introducción a la Oratoria
3 credits. Pre-requisite: None. The students will learn effective ways to communicate their ideas in different types of public settings. Students are expected to participate in debates, group presentations and persuasive speech. This class will provide the knowledge for effective communication and effective ways to organize a message.
Literatura Americana desde 1900
3 credits. Pre-requisite: Composición en Inglés II. This course covers major writers, genres and themes in American Literature from 1900 to the present. This includes fiction, poetry and drama. In addition, students will analyze the social, political and cultural context in which each writing work takes place.
Introducción a la Ética
3 credits. Pre-requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to provide students with a clear definition of Ethics and the nature of morality. Ethics will be analyzed from different points of view this includes; cultural, socio-economic and religious influence. The students will investigate how Ethics influence one’s ability to judge and make decisions.
Civilización Occidental I
3 credits. Pre-requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to analyze the main events in human civilization from ancient times to modern times. Students will be able to understand the relationship between the past and the present. Students are expected to analyze the way Western society has change over time and how major events and ideas shaped our society. Geography, religions, customs, wars and ideologies are examined in order to understand Western civilization.
Principios de Macroeconomía
3 credits. Pre-requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to study production, employment, prices, the aggregate expenditures and the aggregate levels of economic activity. Students are expected to analyze monetary and fiscal policies with respect to unemployment and inflation.
Ciencia Medioambiental
3 credits. Pre- Requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, and to evaluate the risks associated with these problems and examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them.
Biología General
3 credits. Pre-requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to provide students with the basic knowledge in Biology; topics will include: cell structure and function, evolution, genetics and ecology. The students are expected to use the scientific method of thinking to analyze and relate concepts to the environment.
Bienestar Total
3 credits. Pre-requisite: None. The purpose of this class is to provide students with the knowledge and awareness to live a balance life. Wellness is analyzed from different points of view including, physical, emotional, mental and environmental. The students will be expected to think critical and analytical providing feedbacks to the issues presented in class. In addition students will analyze their lifestyles, families and environment in order to create a plan to life a total wellness life style.
Álgebra Universitaria
3 credits. Pre-requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to provide students with critical thinking skills and the ability to solve mathematical functions. Topics will include: Polynomial functions, Rational functions, Exponential functions, Logarithmic functions and linear systems. Students are expected to engage in an active discovery of mathematical concepts.
Estadística
3 credits. Pre-requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to provide the students with the knowledge to make intelligent judgments and informed decisions by interpreting statistics and analyzing data. Among the topics studied are: collecting data, descriptive methods, probability material and inferential techniques.
Introducción a los Negocios
3 credits. Pre- Requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to provide a student with the introductory knowledge in Business and the role it plays in today’s economy. Among the topics studied are: finance, personnel, management and marketing. Students are expected to keep themselves informed and up today with local and global economic news.
Principios de Microeconomía
3 credits. Pre- requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to study the different economic models, the relationship between consumers, firms and markets. In addition, the students will understand how the government regulates the economy and how it intervenes in the market.
Principios de Contabilidad I
3 credits. Pre- requisite: Álgebra Universitaria. This course is an introduction to accounting and its basic concepts. Students will learn how to record, understand and review financial transactions. Among the topics studied we have: financial statements, information system, accrual accounting, sales and receivables and operating assets.
Introducción a la Industria Hotelera
3 credits. Pre- requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the hospitality industry and to provide the knowledge about its operations. Among the topics studied we have: managed services, attractions, events, entertainment and restaurant operations.
Gestión de Alimentos y Bebidas
3 credits. Pre- requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge about food service operations and the tools needed to manage those operations. Among the topics studied we have: food safety, production, service, facilities, human resource and performance improvement.
Marketing Hotelero
3 credits. Pre- requisite: None. The purpose of this class is to provide students with the tools needed to create successful campaigns for a hospitality business. Among the topics studied we have: factors that influence customer behavior, customer satisfaction, market segmentation and positioning, distribution strategies, marketing channels and electronic marketing.
Gestión Hotelera
3 credits. Pre- requisite: None. This course will provide a theoretical perspective on service management and how service management concepts can be employed to the hospitality business. Students will gain an understanding of revenue management’s key concepts and applicability of revenue maximization strategies and their operational aspect. The latest industry issues and trends affecting the aspects of the lodging industry will be discussed and analyzed.

3 credits. Pre- requisite: None. The purpose of this course is to provide students with the basic knowledge and customer service techniques to exceed guest’s expectations. Among the topics studied we have: communication skills, building and maintaining relationships, customer service via technology and encouraging customer loyalty.
